What is it?
You wait years for a new hot Focus and two come along at the same time. Unveiled alongside new five-door Focus hatchback, the ST estate is for those who require the extra capacity of a wagon but still want the power to excite when the mood catches. Packing the same 247bhp, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as the hatchback, the estate version is aimed squarely at the Audi S3 Sportback and is expected to carry a £1,000 premium over the standard ST.
Why's it here? Why not? Every fast Ford is greeted with a fanfare from the motoring media and enthusiasts alike, and the most practical of the breed is no different. Many have lamented the death of the five-cylinder engine of old but the new four pot promises 35mpg and 180g/km CO
2 with the distinctive warble somewhat replicated by a clever 'sound composer'. The many computerised elements that aid in handling have also been beefed up so the new Focus ST should be a hoot to drive.
Show stopper or floor filler?
It may be an wagon but the Focus ST estate is a proper show stopper. Perfect for the family man who needs the space to transport 2.4 children and a dog but craves some fun behind the wheel in equal measure.
