The updated 1 Series Coupé and Convertible will debut at the Detroit Motor Show, BMW has revealed.

The new car will sit alongside the recently revealed high-performance 1 Series M Coupé. Both that and the 6 Series Convertible make world premieres in what will be a busy show for the Bavarian company.

The 1 Series Coupé and Convertible feature styling changes that 'optimise not only the appearance but also [the car's] aerodynamic properties,' says BMW.

There are no CO2 or fuel consumption figures for the range yet, but the aerodynamic improvements should lower both. Visual work comprises alterations to the headlamp shape and lower front bumper, while the rear headlamps get a new light 'signature'.

The 'Marrakesh Brown' colour introduced with the X1 SUV is now available for the 1 Series, as is the 'Vermillion Red' of the car in the pictures.

The 6 Series Convertible, which goes on sale in the UK in March, will initially offer buyers a choice of two petrol engines: a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo in the 640i and a 4.4-litre eight-cylinder turbo in the 650i.

Prices for the car, which BMW says is the most highly specified 6 Series ever, will start at around £70,000.
