Jeep has given the Compass a makeover for 2011; it gets a new look in the style of the Grand Cherokee and promises improved economy.
New body panels at the front alter the appearance while retaining the company's trademark seven-slot grille. There is new bright-work and protective lower body cladding too. At the rear there are now LED lamps. For Europe Jeep will change some details from those of the pictured North American car - including the front bumper - for a sportier look.
The interior gets new, soft touch door trims and 'premium cloth' seats. Controls for the radio, cruise control and hands-free phone are integrated into the steering wheel.
Two petrol engines are offered in the US: 2.0-litre 156bhp and 2.4-litre 170bhp. For the UK, a 2.2-litre diesel will also be offered. European fuel consumption and emissions figures have not been released but initial indications are that the diesel will fit in UK VED band G (CO
2 emissions of 151-165g/km).
The new Jeep Compass goes on sale in America this month. European cars are expected to arrive in the summer of 2011.
We're likely to see the new Compass at the
Detroit Auto Show next month.
