Brabus displayed two versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG at the Essen Motor Show. Alongside a 'normal' version there is a wide-body Brabus Widestar, which is described by the manufacturer as 'a custom-tailored designer suit for the Mercedes SLS AMG'.

The 'clothes' are made from carbon fibre and include wider rear wings and rear valance. To fill the beefier rear arches the track has been increased by 20mm and there is a set of lightweight, forged alloy wheels. The front rims are 9.5 x 20-inches and the rears are 11 x 21-inches, offered with either Pirelli or Yokohama tyres. As befits the bespoke nature of the car customers can choose brushed alloy, polished or painted finishes for the wheels.

The same wheels are fitted to the non-wide-body Brabus SLS. Other body modifications include a new front spoiler said to cut aerodynamic lift. A variety of finishes are available for the add-on parts, including gloss or matt clear coat, body colour or a contrasting finish.

Both versions come with adjustable Bilstein suspension that allows the driver to choose softer or firmer ride than standard. There is also a lightweight, titanium exhaust system said to liberate an extra 10bhp. A pneumatically controlled bypass valve selects a quiet 'coming home' mode or a more sporting sound.

The interior features a 250mph speedometer, ergonomic sports steering wheel and stainless steel sill scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo. Customers can also choose from a range of leather types and colours and trim finishes for the door panels and centre console.
