Toyota has not had an easy time in the press recently. Problems with sticking accelerators on some models, followed by reports of brake trouble on the Prius have lead to headlines that no company wants to see.
It seems that British customers have not been deterred though, as Toyota has announced sales of the Prius in February reached 538 units. That figure beats the previous monthly sales record, set in February 2008, of 237 cars.
It remains to be seen how sales will be affected by the latest piece of bad news to break in America. On Monday 8th March a driver called the emergency services as the accelerator pedal in his (previous generation) Prius stuck. Officers from the California Highway Patrol assisted in bringing the car to a safe halt. Toyota has dispatched a technical specialist to investigate the cause of the incident.
