Geneva will see Abarth reveal its latest model, based on the
Fiat Punto Evo. The addition of a larger turbocharger to the Abarth Punto Evo boosts power from the 1.4-litre MultiAir from 135- to 165bhp.
The increased power allows the Abarth Evo to reach 62mph in just 7.9 seconds, while the driver can select between Sport or Normal modes. Choosing Sport automatically switches on the TTC (Torque Transfer Control) system that aids cornering, while the steering and accelerator response also change in character in this guise.
Brembo brakes deal with stopping the Abarth, while larger anti-roll bars and stiffer springs should improve the Punto Evo's handling. Naturally all these changes are signalled with a body kit and plenty of Abarth badging, the interior too getting the usual racier makeover.
For those wanting a bit more, Abarth is offering an SS upgrade on the Punto Evo, this boosting its output to 180bhp. Like the SS enhancements on the 500 the Punto Evo's SS kit arrives in an Abarth-branded wooden crate. The dealer will fit its contents, which include a tuning kit, high-performance perforated, ventilated brake discs, new brake pads, 18-inch Abarth SS alloy wheels painted in white or titanium and a new air filter.
Prices have yet to be announced, but with the standard 135bhp Punto Evo Sporting already perilously close to Renaultsport's significantly more powerful Clio the Abarth cars will need to be well-priced if they're to be competitive.
