What's this about?

The Fiat 500 has proven to be an enormous success for the Italian brand since its launch in 2007, and it shows no sign of slowing up as two new special editions have been revealed. The Fiat 500 Star and 500 Rockstar will soon arrive in dealerships to offer even more unique colour combinations and better standard specifications.

What's different about them?

These new special editions are based on the existing 500 Lounge and 500 Sport models, adding some unique exterior colours and exclusive interior designs. They're set to appeal to image-conscious buyers and with the 500 Rockstar Fiat is hoping to attract more men. Currently, two thirds of Fiat 500 buyers are female, yet it's the opposite on the Abarth side, where the majority of people buying the souped-up supermini are male.

The 500 Star uses the same styling elements as is seen on the 500 Lounge, including chrome flashes on the front bumpers, and is available in an exclusive White Stella paint that is in keeping with the very latest fashion trends. If the hints of pink in the White Stella paint isn't quite your thing, there is still a good choice of other colours available including Gelato White, Carrara Grey, Vesuvius Black, Pompei Grey, Opera Bordeaux, Colosseo Grey, Epic Blue and Ice White. Additionally, the car comes on 16-inch alloy wheels and gets a fixed glass roof as standard, with the option of a retractable fabric roof.

On the inside, there is now the most customisable cabin to date, and it comes with a seven-inch touchscreen display as standard, making it the largest available in this segment of the market, says Fiat. In keeping with the times, that unit also includes USB and smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Fiat is also adding six months complimentary access to the Apple Music streaming service with every car.

Buyers can also now choose from two different colours for the large dashboard fascia, which previously only matched the car's exterior paint. Now there's White Sand with a pearl finish or a matt Bordeaux. Upholstery options include White Sand and Black with a new Matelassé finish in eco leather that carries the 500 logos embroidered into the seat backs.

What about the 500 Rockstar?

While Fiat hasn't come out and said it, the 500 Rockstar could have more male appeal with its design. It draws from the 500 Sport model, so it gets sportier bumpers for a start. Equally appealing is the new Green Portofino matt paint. The exterior also gets contrasting satin chrome door mirrors and black window trim. Again, 16-inch alloy wheels are standard fit, as is the fixed glass roof. Other exterior colours include Gelato White, Carrara Grey, Passione Red, Vesuvius Black, Pompei Grey, Opera Bordeaux, Colosseo Grey, Italia Blue and Ice White.

On the interior, there is a new pinstripe fabric that features the choice of contrasting grey or blue details and black eco leather on the upper sections of the seat backs. As with the 500 Star, two dashboard finishes are available to suit the interior colour choices.

How much will it cost?

Both the Fiat 500 Star and 500 Rockstar are now available to order from dealers, with prices starting from £15,395 for the 1.2-litre 69hp 500 Star.
