What's the news?
The Land Rover Discovery is 25 years old this year and, as such, the company has decided to simplify its model line-up and lob in a bit of extra tech as a way of celebrating.
Gone are the old GS and XS specifications, replaced now by SE and SE Tech to go with the higher HSE and HSE Luxury versions. SE is entry level but it gains extra standard equipment over the GS it replaces, with comforts such as cruise control, front fog lights, automatic headlamps and wipers, headlamp power wash, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and interior foot well and door puddle lamps all thrown in.
SE Tech replaces XS and adds Xenon headlights with LED signature as standard. Even the HSE gets an upgrade, with 20-inch alloys fitted instead of 19s. You can also add the Grand Black Lacquer wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel from the XXV Special Edition anniversary model to any Disco, while there are three new colours outside: Aruba, Kaikora Stone and Montalcino Red replace Luxor, Ipanema Sand and Nara Bronze.
Finally, the Discovery's in-car infotainment system is complemented by the InControl Apps function, which seeks to replicate the look and feel of compatible smartphone apps for maximum connectivity. They can be controlled via the Land Rover's touchscreen, although the owner must download Land Rover InControl Apps to their smartphone from either the Apple App Store (for iPhone 5 and later) or Google Play (for Android version 4.0 and later).
Anything else?
The enhancements to the Discovery range are available to order now, with customer deliveries of the uprated cars starting from September. The SE kicks off the range from £41,595, rising to £59,965 for the HSE Luxury.
