What's the news?
Peugeot's model-by-model makeover has now reached the 5008 MPV for 2014. Out is the bland front styling and in is the new 'floating' front grille, bringing the people carrier in line with the looks of the 208 and 2008 models. Also new for 2014 is extra equipment with a small increase in pricing.
Exterior
Apart from the new family face, the seven-seat 5008 benefits from redesigned headlights and LEDs added to the lower portion of the units. Chrome is also added to the lower air intakes surrounding the fog lamps, brightening up the exterior. A choice of nine colours is offered for 2014. Further exterior revisions include a choice of alloy wheels from 16- up to 18 inches in diameter.
Interior
For the first time, a reversing camera is installed in the tailgate giving the driver a full view via an outline of the vehicle using coloured markings from the dashboard mounted screen. The system features a space measurement system, letting the driver know if the parking space they have found is big enough.
What's more, 'Distance Alert' informs the driver of the distance to the vehicle in front. The polycarbonate dashboard screen can be controlled for angle and brightness by switches on the centre console, while the audio, satnav and trip computer screen is fully retractable.
Mechanicals
There's a choice of six engines - four diesels and two petrol. Starting with the 115hp 1.6-litre e-HDi FAP with 65.7mpg and CO2 of 113g/km, the top diesel is a 2.0-litre HDi FAP with 163hp paired with an automatic gearbox with a claimed 44.8mpg and CO2 of 164g/km. Both petrol options are 1.6-litre in capacity, and come with a choice of 120- or 156hp, with 40.9mpg and CO2 of 159g/km or 40.4mpg and CO2 of 163g/km, respectively.
Anything else?
Peugeot points out that the revised 5008 MPV comes with taller seating and five seats that are fully retractable, folding down to create a flat floor. A boon for families transporting large cargo items.
The 5008 MPV starts at £18,800, topping out at €21,345 for the 2.0-litre diesel.
