BMW V10 gets a boost with G-Power
G-Power has developed a single supercharger conversion for BMW's V10 engine to produce up to 700hp.

What's the news?

With 500hp the BMW V10 from the previous generation M5 and M6 isn't exactly short of power. Of course there will always be people who want more and G-Power has announced a new, single supercharger conversion for the 5.0-litre V10. The conversion replaces the previous twin supercharger system and just 30 'GP Edition 30 years' kits will be produced to 'celebrate 30 years of first class performance'.

A single centrifugal supercharger by ASA is at the heart of the system. With the G-Power SK Plus modification there is no need for an intercooler as boost pressure is relatively low. This, combined with the simpler belt drive for the single compressor allows the cost of the conversion to be kept modest. Power is increased to 580hp for a cost of roughly £6,118 plus VAT (at current exchange rates) or, for a further £600 or so, the output can be taken to 600hp.

Two further stages are available, incorporating an intercooler allowing boost pressure to be increased. The SK I kit lifts power to 620hp and features an aluminium intake system, painted G-Power orange, in place of the standard air box on top of the engine. For the SK II package a free-flowing exhaust contributes towards a maximum figure of 700hp.

When supercharging a normally aspirated engine it is usually necessary to reduce the compression ratio to prevent the engine from blowing up. This means an expensive rebuild of the motor; something that G-Power says is unnecessary with its conversions.

Anything else?

At the top of the range G-Power still offers a twin supercharger system, for customers who absolutely must have 800hp.
