What's the news?

Finally, the curtains have been lifted and we have had our first look at the new Jaguar F-Type Coupé. As well as the visuals, Jaguar has also revealed full UK pricing and specification details for the new coupé, as the company describes it as being "the most dynamically capable, performance focused, production Jaguar ever".

Exterior

The first thing to note is that the F-Type Coupé is stunning. I mean, properly stunning. The front and rear have been lifted from the equally-gorgeous drop-top version, but the new low-slung, sloping roofline gives it a whiff of Aston Martin Zagato in terms of styling. From launch there will be three trim levels, the Coupé, the S Coupé and the flagship R Coupé. The Coupé and S Coupé are very similar in terms of styling; however, the S Coupé does ride slightly lower than the standard Coupé and features 19-inch alloys as opposed to the 18-inch versions fitted to the Coupé. Top-spec R Coupé models will be instantly recognisable thanks to its 20-inch alloys that sit in front of painted brake callipers. Also fitted to the R Coupé are quad exhaust outlets; a chrome finish to the vents and grilles; and the option of adding a Black Pack that surrounds these items in gloss black. Elements such as the front splitter, door mirrors and bonnet power vents can also be specified in carbon fibre.

Interior

Inside, the layout is taken straight from the Roadster. All models get leather on the seats and steering wheel as well as some paddle shifters; however, the S Coupé gains full leather upholstery and upgraded paddles. Flagship R Coupé buyers will enjoy more though, as this model comes with Performance seats complete with extra support and inflatable side bolsters to keep you in place during hard cornering. These are finished in a higher grade of leather and embossed with the 'R' logo - just in case you forget. As well as the seats, the entire dash is coated in leather with the option of either Red, Camel or Ivory contrast stitching throughout. More branding can be found on the flat-bottomed steering wheel, although this can be swapped out for a regular round wheel at no extra cost. For those who don't like leather, buyers can opt for a 'suedecloth' interior instead.

Mechanicals

Both the Coupé and S Coupé come with Jaguar's supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine; albeit in different states of tune. The base model has a 340hp variant that also produces 450Nm of torque. Coupled to the eight-speed 'Quickshift' automatic transmission that's fitted to all F-Type Coupés, this will hit 62mph from rest in just 5.1 seconds and go on to a top speed of 161mph. The S Coupé gets the engine in a slightly more powerful 380hp guise that also develops a bit more torque. This drops the 0-62mph time down to 4.8 seconds and adds 10mph to the top speed.

The R Coupé is in a different league, however, as it's packing a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 kicking out 550hp. This gets the F-Type over the 62mph barrier in four seconds dead where it will keep accelerating until it hits the electronic buffers at 186mph.

To keep it in check at this speed, the F-Type Coupé comes with an electronic rear spoiler that automatically deploys at 70mph. The car also comes with an Electronic Active Differential, Torque Vectoring, Adaptive Dynamics and double wishbone suspension all round to keep things stable in the bends; and the option of Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes is there for when the speed gets too much.

Anything else?

The only question now is price, and with an entry-level sticker of £51,235, the F-Type certainly isn't going to be a car you'll see every day, though that makes it about £7,000 cheaper than the roadster model. You especially won't be seeing the R Coupé very often as this demands £85,000 of your hard earned cash before you can take it off the forecourt.

Order books are open now.
