Infiniti - the luxury division of Nissan - has officially pulled the covers back on its latest concept, called the Q30. Designed as a possible entry to the premium compact segment, it is all but certain to get the green light for production as Infiniti continues to expand into the European market.
Exterior
Infiniti's extroverted styling is clear to see in this latest concept and, providing it doesn't change all that much by the time the production version is released, should make for a more exciting design in a segment that is still predominantly filled with conservatively styled cars.
The large grille is in keeping with the bold look of other Infinitis, while the flowing lines along the car's flanks give it a distinctive look, though with a sloping roofline that is likely to be less extreme on the production version.
Interior
Once the production version arrives, expect Infiniti to incorporate a modern, contemporary cabin into the Q30, which is set to have a premium feel much like some of its German rivals, but it could have a less conventional layout. It is unclear at this stage whether a production-ready Q30 will seat just two in the rear or have space for a third occupant, while boot space could be on the small side - especially if that tightly designed rear end stays in place.
Mechanicals
Like most cars in the premium compact segment, a variety of engines and drivetrains are likely to be offered when the Q30 eventually hits the showrooms. Naturally, petrol and diesel options will be on the table, and although it might not be available initially, we wouldn't rule out the potential of a hybrid option down the line.
Anything else?
Thanks to a sponsorship tie-up with the Red Bull Racing Formula One team, one of the 'consultants' on the Infiniti Q30 is none other than three-time world champion Sebastien Vettel. Infiniti claims that he does take an active involvement in the development side of things. Meanwhile it was also announced that the Infiniti Q50 sports saloon will go on sale in Europe in mid-November.
