What's the news?
The highly anticipated McLaren P1 is now one step closer to being launched following the completion of extreme temperature tests along the west cost of America. The menacing-looking Carbon Black version was also completely undisguised; and was captured on film on the public road for the first time in production ready state.
Temperatures for the extreme weather testing reached a melting 52 degrees centigrade as the P1 was driven through Arizona, California and Nevada. As McLaren wants to make this the best road car it has ever produced, the P1 was also thundered around a track in the same blistering heat - just to make sure it could cope. Following this, the McLaren P1 looks set to be delivered to its first customers in a few short weeks.
The limited run of 375 P1s will be launched to coincide with McLaren's 50th anniversary, and is "everything the company has ever done" as it combines half a century of racing technology and expertise. Throughout the car's final testing stages, McLaren has been in close collaboration with the P1's technical suppliers, such as Akebono and Pirelli, to ensure that everything is as close to perfect as can be before the P1's impending release.
