Infiniti has announced that the latest addition to the brand's range, the Q30, will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It is strictly in concept form at present, but marks the company's first step towards a premium compact offering.
Exterior
So far, the only clue as to how the car looks is in the sketchy-rendering you see above. From this we can see that the Q30 Concept shares many of the styling cues seen on the larger Q50; including the lights, grille and, albeit slightly extreme versions of, the alloy wheels. The rendering also suggests a high window line along with a coupé-style body; meaning that five-door versions of the model may have concealed door handles.
Buzz words such as "slender, sleek and seductive" were used by Infiniti's Executive Design Director, Alfonso Albaisa, to describe the Q30's appearance. He also noted that the car has a muscular design, hinting at an overall sporty nature for Infiniti's first compact model.
Interior
As yet, no word has been given regarding the Q30's interior. Looking at the Q50 we would expect to see the dashboard feature a large, HD, tablet-style touchscreen where the driver would access many of the car's functions. Swathes of aluminium are also expected, and the appearance of high-grade leather throughout is also a given.
Mechanicals
Like the interior, we have no idea what to expect under the bonnet of the Q30. It would seem likely that some kind of hybrid system would be among the engine offerings; however, we will have to wait until the unveiling for more clarity.
One thing we do know is that the handling and dynamics of the Q30 have been influenced from start to finish by Infiniti's Director of Performance and three-time Formula One World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. Vettel had his hand in tweaking the current Q50 as well.
Anything else?
Infiniti is likely to keep all specific details under wraps until the concept's unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The reveal is set to take place at Infiniti's press conference at 9:15am GMT on Tuesday 10th September.
