What's the news?
MG aims to break into the supermini market with a bang by offering every model in its new MG3 range for less than £10,000. Top spec 3STYLE models are priced at £9,999 with even smaller price tags found on the three other launch specifications. MG is also expecting a low insurance group of just 4E for its new model, putting it very high on the list of value-for-money superminis.
Exterior
Every model in the MG3 range gets LED daytime running lights; with top-of-the-range models adding 16-inch 'Diamond' alloys and a sports body kit comprising of a boot spoiler and side skirts. Those wanting the body kit without the additional cost of the 3STYLE model can opt for a sports version of the mid-range 3FORM version, too. MG is also offering a range of customisable options including a choice of 10 exterior colours and a variety of exterior graphics for owners to personalise their cars.
Interior
A similar offering of interior colour packs and leather upholstery options can be had in the MG3's cabin, too. MP3 and aux-in connectivity is fitted as standard to all models, and a DAB radio can be found in all versions apart from the entry-level MG3 3TIME. Mid-range MG3 3FORM and 3FORM Sport models gain air conditioning, Bluetooth and a leather bound steering wheel with contrasting red stitching; whilst 3STYLE versions get cruise control, automatic lights and wipers and rear parking sensors. MG says that its new model also benefits from having one of the largest interiors in the class.
Mechanicals
Powering every MG3 is a 106hp petrol engine connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. Acceleration and top speed data have yet to be announced, as have the all-important fuel economy and emissions figures; although MG claims that the MG3's chassis is 'designed to make driving it a bit more fun than your average small car'. We also know that every model comes with Hill Hold Control, six airbags and traction control as standard.
Anything else?
Whilst MG is keen to point out that the most expensive version of its low cost supermini is under ten grand, it's also important to highlight that the base model comes bearing a price tag of just £8,399. All versions are expected to hit showrooms in September, and MG says that there is already massive interest in its new model.
