What's the news?

Lexus is hinting at what the next IS could look like with its latest concept - the LF-CC due to be unveiled in the flesh at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The firm claims it's the newest evolution of its 'L-finesse' design language, showcasing the signature spindle grille and reflecting a future compact executive model, as well as a new mid-sized coupé.

Exterior

On top of that now familiar grille (already seen on the CT 200h, GS and RX models) the LF-CC adds three LED projector headlamps that are without their traditional one-piece covers. Not only does the front bumper have LED daytime running lamps, but the wings it leads into are sculpted to allow maximum airflow to the brakes and engine bay. The boot lid incorporates a prominent spoiler and below the usual L-shaped rear lights there's a diffuser to maximise the aerodynamics. Whatever the reasons behind its design, it looks great!

Interior

There's more evolution here, the cabin being the latest development of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) idea. The upper zone is reserved for the display of instruments, while the lower is concerned with operation; the highlights of the LF-CC being the new shift lever and touch tracer display. All of the controls are located around the driver's seat that is set deliberately low in the cabin for a sporty feel.

Mechanicals

This is where there is a definite concept-to-production crossover: the 2.5-litre full-hybrid system will make it into the firm's showroom models in the near future. Designed specifically for a hybrid powertrain the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine promises proper performance but less than 100g/km of CO2 emissions. There's a lot to like about it; we just hope it's not paired with a droning CVT gearbox.

Anything else?

Lexus will also be showing its LS 600 F Sport at Paris too, which will be the first time the flagship model will have been seen in Western Europe.
