Vauxhall is gunning for the Audi A5 Cabriolet with its new drop top. Shown here in teaser images the Cascada (from the Spanish for waterfall) is the Luton firm's first mid-size convertible since the 1978 Centaur and the first to be completed by Vauxhall itself for more than 70 years (the Centaur was built by a third party).
At 4.7 metres long the new Cascada is over 70mm longer than the Audi A5 and features a full length fabric roof that can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 30mph.
The move into the mid-size segment marks a departure for Vauxhall, which has enjoyed success with its Astra based drop tops for years. As Duncan Aldred, Chairman and Managing Director of Vauxhall explains the move is about "...refreshing people's perception of our great brand."
With the new Adam set to take centre stage at the upcoming Paris Motor Show the Cascada will have to wait for its public debut, but Vauxhall promises more information will arrive soon, ahead of the car going on sale early next year.
