What is it?
It's the old Rolls-Royce Phantom, only this time it's been updated. The changes are almost as subtle as the brand, so that means you're likely not to notice the new LED lighting that also introduces adaptive headlamps with curve lighting. Hopefully the new eight-speed automatic gearbox, more efficient engine and revised satnav and driver assistance technologies are more obvious.
Why's it here?
It's here because changes to the Rolls-Royce brand aren't exactly commonplace, and while these couldn't be considered radical they do improve the overall package. The V12 direct injection engine for example now boasts fuel economy that is 10 per cent better, while CO2 emissions are down from 388- to 347g/km.
Show stopper or floor filler?
In terms of its importance, the changes made to the Rolls-Royce and its place in society it could be considered a bit of a floor filler. However, the Phantom is so darn large that it's hard to miss it, and compared to some of the new money motors (not looking towards the Bentley EXP 9 F obviously) the sheer class and taste involved in the revised Phantom Series II makes it worth a second glance.
