Nissan has finally released performance figures for its positively mental Juke-R prototype and as expected it becomes the fastest crossover vehicle on the planet.

The unlikely lovechild of a humble Nissan Juke and GT-R supercar can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds before sailing onto a top speed of 160mph. The acceleration figure may be almost a second slower than that of the GT-R from much the Juke-R borrowed its powerplant and drivetrain but astonishingly is quicker than that of the Ferrari California.

Even with certain aerodynamic tweaks the crossover body shape is not really conducive to high speed but Nissan claims it was the additional weight brought about by the FIA-specification roll cage and chassis reinforcements required for fitting the GT-R components in the Juke body that ultimately prevented it from matching its parent's top speed.

We're still patiently awaiting the call from Nissan to drive the car, with over 2.2 million views of the various videos that detailed the building of the Juke-R it is clear that the 'skunkworks' project has captured the public's imagination. A new wrap-up video, which details the full development of the car, is available on the Juke-R's YouTube page.
