Jaguar has released a single, tantalising glimpse of what it refers to as its 'production concept' car, the C-X16, due to take a bow at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.

While many rumours suggested that Jaguar's Frankfurt debutante would take the form of a compact roadster reminiscent of the 50-year-old E-type, the designer sketch provided indicates that the concept is in fact a mature-looking two-door coupé. That design maturity tends to suggest that this is much more than a flight of motor show fancy; the 'production concept' tag backs that up.

There's very little else to say about it for now, so we'll let Jaguar's men do the talking:

As is the way, the C-X16 will be on display the night before the first press day of the show, on September 12, though we're promised full details on September 7.
