Source London, a network of electric car charging points, was launched this week by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
There are already 150 charging points across the capital. By 2013 that number should increase to over 1,300 with points in residential streets, supermarkets, leisure centres and public car parks. The scheme normally costs £100 to join, which gives free, unlimited access to use the charging points.
The Mayor wants to increase the uptake of electric vehicles and make London the epicentre of electric driving in Europe. He went on to say, "Through Source London we want to give drivers the confidence that they can plug into this fantastic new motoring technology."
To help promote the scheme Nissan will pay one year's subscription for any LEAF customers who live within 40 miles of a charging point.
Source London is also collaborating with other regions to create a UK-wide charging network. There are plans to allow users to access the East of England network, called Source East, which will be launched soon.
