Porsche has unveiled the 911 Carrera GTS, which with 408bhp is designed to bridge the gaping chasm that exists between the Carrera S and the 911 GT3.
With 23bhp more than the Carrera S, the GTS is rear-wheel drive but shrouded in the wider body (and track) of the four-wheel drive Carrera 4S. Black 'RS Spyder' wheels of 19-inch diameter fill the arches, and there's a unique black-edged body kit.
There's a Cabriolet version too, and both have an interior swathed in Alcantara - most notably on the steering wheel, door pulls and handbrake.
The engine's 310lb.ft peak torque remains as per the Carrera S, but in the GTS it arrives 200rpm earlier, at 4,200rpm. That's down to fine-tuning of the intake manifold, and there's a sports exhaust system for a sportier soundtrack.
A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, but the PDK dual-clutch system is an option. Either way, the GTS will accelerate to 62mph from nought fractionally quicker than an equivalent Carrera S - 0.1 seconds quicker, to be exact.
As ever, the quickest version is the PDK-equipped model with the Sport Chrono pack and its bundled launch control system. That'll hit 62mph in 4.2 seconds.
Prices start at £76,758 for the coupé and £83,493 for the Cabriolet. The Carrera GTS makes its debut at the Paris Motor Show before going on sale in the UK in December.
