Honda is set to launch what it reckons is the world's first supermini hybrid at the upcoming
Paris Motor Show. The hybrid Jazz is fitted with the same petrol-electric system that powers the larger Insight. It will go on sale in the UK in early 2011.
The 1.3-litre i-VTEC engine is combined with an electric motor, putting drive to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. Like the Insight, it will be capable of running on the electric motor alone during medium and low speeds. Both fuel consumption and CO
2 emissions are likely to be similar to the Insight's. A sub-100g/km rating can be expected for motor tax exemption.
Revised headlights with a blue surround, clear rear lights, a new front grille and restyled bumpers distinguish this eco-version from its Jazz siblings. A bespoke Lime Green metallic paint finish will also be available.
Inside, the cabin has a fresh look too; complementing a revised dashboard are blue illuminated dials and dashboard instruments. The new Jazz Hybrid is also available with optional leather trim - a first for the model.
Accompanying the new hybrid Jazz in Paris will be Honda's 2011 model year Insight, CR-Z, Jazz, CR-V, Accord and Accord Tourer. Doors open to the public at the
Paris Motor Show on 2 October 2010.
