Euro NCAP has released the results for the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It scored highly on all four areas of the testing programme, with 97 percent achieved for adult occupant safety. The results mean that the car will retain its five-star rating in 2012 when the Euro NCAP system has reached maximum severity.
The Giulietta features a new 'Prefill' system, which alerts the braking controller that the accelerator pedal has been released. This decreases intervention time and consequently braking distance.
Six airbags are also fitted, along with self-aligning head restraints, a device built into the backrests of the front seats that moves the head restraints closer to the occupants' heads in the event of an impact to lessen the effects of whiplash.
Headlamps with daytime running lights are a preventive safety measure on the Giulietta and will become a European standard by 2012.
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta is due for release this summer.
