MINI is staking a claim as the first manufacturer to 'take on the infamous Nürburgring at race speed with an electrically powered car.'
And while the MINI E Race's 9.51.45 time hardly troubles a Porsche 911 GT3 or Nissan GT-R, it's still quick. Even though that German girl that was on Top Gear did a 10.08 in a diesel Ford Transit van.
Still, a sub ten-minute electric car is quite some accomplishment. It whirred its way up to 116mph during the run, and more impressively, it didn't get a flat battery.
Before we get too excited, as the car's name suggests it's not exactly like the 'production' MINI E. The body is actually considerably lighter, using different panels, and there's a limited-slip differential.
There's also racing suspension, brakes and tyres, a full roll cage and remapped management software for the electric motor. Battery life was not a priority.
The electric motor is the same though, with 201bhp and all its considerable torque delivered instantly to the front wheels. It was piloted by 'ring specialist and former DTM racer Thomas Jäger. He said: "The power of the electric motor has an incredible effect, as you can access its full reserves of torque at all times.
"Another element of this fascinating experience is the lack of noise from the drivetrain. All in all, that was certainly the cleanest and quietest race lap I've ever driven."
There is a highlight video of the lap on YouTube, which you can find see below, though sadly the eerie silence that the Jäger-meister refers to is overdubbed by a horrifying wall of generic rock music.
