Citroen has re-homologated the 1.6- and 2.0-litre HDi versions of the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso. The result is better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions than before.

The 108bhp, 1.6HDi is now 1.9mpg more economical, so that's 53.3mpg on the combined cycle for the manual and 55.4mpg for the EGS automated manual. More importantly, given the changes in Vehicle Excise Duty, this version of the Picasso now drops into band E (131-140g/km) with CO2 emissions of 140- and 135g/km depending on transmission.

Although the 136bhp, 2.0-litre HDi Picasso (only available with the Auto EGS transmission) remains in Band G, its CO2 rating is now 153- rather than 155g/km. Customers will also appreciate the improvement in fuel consumption from 47.9- to 48.7mpg.

For both models the greener engines mean lower Benefit-in-Kind tax for company car drivers.
