A new front bumper and different headlights are the main visual clues to the revised Elise, though it's also slightly wider to help with handling. Under the bonnet, a new 1.6-litre engine replaces the previous entry-point 1.8-litre motor. The new engine is still sourced from Toyota and still has 134bhp.
Why's it here?
The revised Elise may not have the pizzazz of the Evora concepts on Lotus' Geneva stand, but the Elise is the money-maker in the line-up so it needs to tell the world. Also, the Elise remains a great car, so an updated version is worth a few square feet of any show stand. The new starter Elise is on sale from April at a cost of around £26,500.
Show stopper or floor filler?
More show filler than show stopper, especially when the revised Elise is parked next to a pair of high-tech Evora concepts. No matter, the Elise offers 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and Lotus tells us that the new 1.6-litre engine has reduced carbon dioxide emissions of 155g/km, which is a substantial drop from the engine it replaces.
