It's Volvo's new mid-level executive saloon and styling renaissance, all wrapped up in orange splendour on the Geneva show stand. It's still a Volvo though, so it's safe - the key feature is pedestrian protection with full automatic braking.
Why's it here?
Because Volvo has gone sexy, with emphasis on the 'sh' at the start of that word. The S60 also promises much dynamically, because it has a 'dynamic chassis' that's stiffer than the outgoing car's. Steering's sharper too.
Show stopper or floor filler?
At the unveil Volvo showed us a video of a dopey man drinking coffee behind the wheel on a rainy day, thus missing the dopey pedestrian about to step out in front of him. No matter though, because the camera spotted the kerbside idiot and stopped the car automatically, this preventing her death and his prosecution. Clever Volvo. It's out in the summer. Prices later.
