Volvo has come up with a CO
2 counter that commuters can download to their mobile phone to keep track of how much carbon dioxide they use on their way to and from work. The Commute Greener app is being used by 2,000 workers in Gothenburg, Sweden as a world first trial.
The mobile phone app calculates how much carbon dioxide is being emitted during a commuter's journey as the person tells the computer what form of transport they are using.
Magnus Holmqvist, of Volvo IT, has developed the app and says: "Our tests have shown that individuals can quickly reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by more than 30% using Commute Greener." The app can be used regardless of whether the commuter is in a car, on a train, bus, bicycle or walking.
If the trial in Gothenburg is successful, there are plans to offer Commute Greener around the world, with downloads available from the Volvo website.
Did you know that
Car Enthusiast has launched its own Apple App? Granted, it doesn't calculate your CO
2, but it does allow iPhone and iTouch users instant access to our latest news and reviews. You can
download it here or from within iTunes.
