The next generation BMW 5 Series will be revealed in all its glory on November 23rd and then goes on sale early in 2010. Before then, BMW has released a teaser video showing the outline of the car.
As you can see from our exclusive spy shots, the new Five has a more coupé-like roof line. This gives the car a sporting look, even though it will be bigger than the current car. There's also a much more prominent grille, similar to that of the 5 Series GT, with which the next Five shares much of its underpinnings.
BMW is also working on the aerodynamics of the new Five to help it be cleaner and greener, which is why the coupé-shaped roof has been adopted to help the car cut through the air more efficiently. The next Five will come as a saloon at first and followed shortly after by a Touring estate model.
The new 5 Series is also set to be lighter thanks to the use of weight-saving measures by BMW to help the new car be more economical and produce less emissions.
An updated range of engines will be used, many of them shared with the 5 Series GT and with a big emphasis on BMW's EfficientDynamics to make the cars appeal to the core of company drivers who make up a large section of customers. We can also expect to see more turbocharged engines and a hybrid-powered 5 Series join the range as BMW seeks lower carbon dioxide emissions.
