What is it?
It's a fantastical supermini concept from Citroen. Once the REVOLTe concept was unveiled, the Frankfurt floor was awash with talk of it pointing towards a C2 replacement, but that was shortly quashed by Citroen itself, who said a big fat 'no, it isn't'. And by 'awash', we mostly mean it's what we thought to ourselves in our heads.
Why's it here?
To show what Citroen can do, to remind everyone of a little automotive legend called the 2CV, and to take home the coveted 'Dale Winton Flagon for Most Fabulous Conceptual Runabout'. It wins, hands down.
Citroen categorically denies that the C2 will even be replaced when it dies, so unless porky pies are in the air we're struggling to see the point of the REVOLTe. However, it is rather cool, with a set of 'suicide' doors at the back, an interior built for three with the driver on his own up front in the middle, and a Fiat 500C-style canopy roof. The décor in there would put Biggins to shame too, decked out as it is in red velvet and woven leather. Oh, and it's also an extended range petrol-electric hybrid - but that's not even remotely important.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Technically it defines the floor filler, but we've got a soft spot for it because it's so fabulous. And we still think it might just get another mention at some future show when Citroen's unveiling a new small car. We forgot to mention, see, it's badged 'DS'. Why would Citroen do that?
