Kia has announced its line-up for the
Frankfurt Motor Show. With the all-new Venga, new Sorento, updated cee'd and the launch of the EcoDynamics sub-brand there will be plenty to see.
Like Volkswagen's BlueMotion or Ford's ECOnetic badges the EcoDynamics designation will be applied to Kia's most environmentally friendly vehicles. The models shown will have Idle Stop & Go (ISG) to switch off the engine when it is not needed, power saving alternator management, a gear-shift indicator and low rolling resistance Michelin tyres.
Plans for future EcoDynamics models include aerodynamic body modifications, high-efficiency transmissions and hybrid, electric or fuel-cell propulsion. The Kia EcoDynamics Zone at Frankfurt will feature three hybrid concepts.
The Forte LPI Hybrid is based on Kia's mid-sized saloon - which is not currently sold in Europe. Power comes from a 113bhp engine that runs on liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and drives through a CVT gearbox in conjunction with an electric motor. A fleet of Kia's Fortes will undergo 'real world' testing in Europe next year.
Hybrid versions of the new cee'd and Sorento will also be on display. The cee'd uses a similar drivetrain to the Forte but with a petrol-fuelled engine. The Sorento is fitted with a diesel-electric powertrain. A new 1.6-litre, twin-turbo diesel is mated to an electric motor, which drives the front wheels through a double-clutch transmission with manual or automatic modes.
Also on the stand will be Kia's all new Venga compact MPV. Five examples of this model will be on display in a special 'Venga zone'. Another all-new model is the Sorento, with five or seven seats and a new unitary body. Completing the line-up of debuts is the re-styled cee'd.
