We like the Mazda CX-7 here, its blend of good looks, decent driving dynamics and smart interior making it a real winner. Thing is, there's always been a problem with it: no diesel engine. That's fine if you live in out in an oil-rich state, but for those of us without oil wells in our back gardens and incomprehensible wealth in the bank the
petrol powered CX-7 is a no-go.
Not any longer though, as alongside yet another facelifted RX-8 and a rather cool
lightweight MX-5 concept, Mazda will show a diesel CX-7 at the
Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The 2.2-litre unit is already available in the
Mazda3 and
Mazda6, it proving to be punchy and quiet. Mazda is holding back the fuel consumption figures of the turbodiesel CX-7 until the show itself. One thing we can be certain of is that it'll be less thirsty than the petrol version's official 27.7mpg combined consumption figure.
