Five years ago RUF launched the Rt 12 (based on the
Porsche 911 Turbo) and it instantly became one of the fastest production cars in the world, with a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 219mph. Now the company is back with a new version and it is even faster.
The Rt 12 S is essentially an upgraded version of the Rt 12 and as before it's based on the Porsche 997. It comes with an updated styling package that includes a carbon fibre rear spoiler, a new rear bumper with sculpted air intakes and LED lights. An integrated roll cage is also fitted inside.
Under the bonnet the Rt 12 S has a redeveloped twin-turbocharged engine with 685bhp and a top speed of 224mph. Ceramic disc brakes are fitted as standard, as are 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
Optionally buyers can specify a height adjustable front axle that offers 50 millimetres more chassis clearance at the push of a button.
With maximum torque of 649lb.ft, and the option of rear- or four-wheel drive, the Rt 12 S has all of the ingredients to make it a great car. But with prices starting at €255,900 (about £219,000 at today's conversion rate), it will have to top both the original Porsche and its predecessor by some margin to be a success.
