Rolls-Royce has announced key figures for its forthcoming Ghost model, including 563bhp, 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a price of £165,000. More importantly, it should retain the brand's characteristics offering an effortless driving experience.
The power and torque figures suggest that the 6.6-litre turbocharged V12 will deliver its power in a relaxed fashion. A 536bhp power peak occurs at 5,250rpm while the 575lb.ft maximum torque is developed at just 1,500rpm. Power will be transmitted through an eight-speed automatic transmission by ZF to the rear wheels.
Rolls-Royce claims that 0-62mph takes 4.9 seconds while top speed is limited to 155mph. At the same time the performance is claimed to be delivered in near silence with engine, exhaust and tyre noise engineered to be practically inaudible. The driving experience is supposed to combine effortless control and a 'dynamic connection' with the road.
The Ghost will make its public debut at the
2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September with the first cars being delivered late this year. Customers outside Europe will have slightly longer to wait - until spring 2010. The price, excluding delivery and taxes, is £165,000.
