The Infiniti brand has yet to be fully launched in Britain, but Nissan's luxury car division has just announced what buyers can expect for their money when the new G37 Convertible arrives later this year.
Only two versions of the good-looking coupé-convertible will be on offer initially, though even the entry-level GT model features a wealth of standard equipment, such as dual-zone climate control, 19-inch alloys, keyless entry and start, a wind deflector, bi-Xenon headlights and leather seats - the front two heated and electrically adjustable.
On top of that lot, and of course the folding hardtop, G37 Convertible buyers are the first to try Infiniti's new Connectiviti
[sic] infotainment. In its most basic format it encompasses parking sensors and a rear view camera, Bluetooth communication with voice control and a stereo with MP3 player connectivity and a built-in hard drive.
Upgrading to the GT Premium model brings a larger hard drive for storing music on, plus an advanced new satnav system based around a 30Gb hard disk drive. Utilising Michelin's Green Guide data, the system can suggest more scenic routes to your destination, along with interesting stop-off points and any fixed speed camera locations on the way.
Despite the luxury remit of the Infiniti brand, the G37 promises to be a good drive too and the extra weight of the folding hardtop hardly blunts performance, with 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 155mph thanks to the 3.7-litre V6 under the bonnet. A seven-speed automatic transmission, with magnesium gearshift paddles, is optional.
The G37 Convertible arrives in September. Prices will be announced closer to that date.
