Volkswagen has revised the Passat range: the Sport and SEL variants are out and in comes a new R Line model in both saloon and estate body styles. The new trim level joins the S, Highline, BlueMotion and
R36 in the updated Passat range.
Based on the entry-level S model, the R Line adds seventeen-inch 'Monte Carlo' alloy wheels and a styling pack. The styling pack features front, side and rear skirts, plus additional chrome trim for a more sporting appearance.
Improvements have not been limited to the exterior, as the interior gains a leather multi-function steering wheel, front centre armrest and both height adjustment and lumbar support on the front seats. Extra equipment includes cruise control and electronic tyre pressure monitoring.
The range starts at £17,040 for the 1.4-litre TSI petrol version with 120bhp and returning 42.2mpg on the combined cycle. The other petrol engine is a 158bhp, 1.8-litre TSI unit. Drivers seeking better economy should opt for the £19,320, 108bhp, 2.0-litre TDI model; this manages 50.4mpg and emits 146 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre. Finally, there is a 138bhp version of the 2.0-litre TDI, which is offered with Volkswagen's DSG transmission at a £1,270 premium over the six-speed manual version.
The Passat R Line is available to order now with deliveries starting shortly.
