SEAT has released preliminary details of the updated Leon and Altea models. The styling has been changed slightly, the engines have been updated and equipment levels have been improved. The updated hatchback and MPV will make their first motor show appearance in
Geneva next month.
The styling has been updated to reflect SEAT's new corporate face first seen on the
new Ibiza. Changes to the front end include a reshaped grille, smaller badge and larger headlamps. The door mirrors, alloy wheels and tail lamps have also been restyled while the glass area has been increased for improved visibility.
The 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine has a modest power increase to 208bhp and whilst the power output of the 2.0-litre TDI motor remains at 168bhp it is now the more modern, common rail unit used by Audi and VW. No fuel consumption or emission figures have been quoted as yet, but SEAT claims that reducing consumption and emissions were amongst the engineers' targets for the updated models.
Safety equipment has been improved too; on the Leon an updated traction control system that uses the brakes to mimic the function of a limited-slip differential is now fitted. Emergency brake assist is also offered to back up the anti-lock brakes. Other driver aids will include Hill-Hold Control, parking sensors and an optional rear-view camera.
The updated models will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Sales of the new Leon and Altea are due to start in the summer with full details including prices and performance figures to be announced nearer the launch date.
It is also believed that SEAT will unveil an estate version of the Exeo in Geneva.
