The Peterborough-based manufacturer of lightweight sports cars, Radical, has released its latest road-going machine at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Called the Rapture, it is a 765kg, downforce-enhanced two-seat beast with an open cockpit, mid-engined layout and the sort of performance that would disgrace a hypercar. Power comes from a reworked version of the Ford 2.3-litre Ecoboost, found in the Mustang, old Focus RS and the new Focus ST, with outputs pegged at 355hp and 434Nm. That's enough to punch the Rapture at the horizon really, really fast, with 0-60mph taking 3.0 seconds and 0-100mph just 8.4 seconds. Top speed is 165mph and its make-up includes an FIA-compliant safety cell and crash structure, composite LMP-inspired bodywork, a bi-plane rear wing, a double-tunnel diffuser, a six-speed paddle-shift gearbox, the company's own 'Nik-link' suspension system with adjustable dampers, multipoint harnesses for the one-piece moulded racing seats, a multifunction digital steering wheel, a data-logging LCD instrument cluster and cabin heating. Radical Rapture owners who splash out the £89,500 (excluding VAT) for the car will be offered a tailored track tuition package to make sure they can get the most out of their new pride and joy.
