What's all this about?
This is the inevitable, but wholly welcome, announcement of the estate version of the Renault Mégane, with the French company choosing to stick with the 'Sport Tourer' epithet for its C-segment wagon.
Is this an in-depth reveal?
It's mainly a chance to check out the styling, which - like the hatchback Mégane - is suitably arresting. The Sport Tourer retains the same striking face bracketed by LED daytime running lamps and it also has that full-width light bar at the rear, while the Geneva show car will be a high-spec GT model. That means it features some styling memes that you won't find on every Sport Tourer, such as dark metal roof rails, a meatier front bumper design, honeycomb mesh front grilles, wider air intakes with twin air scoops, a chrome exhaust pipe and a rear diffuser. But we do know one very interesting fact about the Mégane Sport Tourer GT's mechanicals.
Which is what?
Which is that this sportier model will feature four-wheel steering, Renault's name for this tech being 4Control. This apparently allows the Mégane to have 'precise, dynamic handling' on open roads and 'exceptional agility' in built-up areas.
Sounds good. Is it practical, though?
For those of you more worried about the pragmatic make-up of the French motor, Renault claims the Mégane Sport Tourer has the 'segment's longest maximum load length'. We'll bring you more details on the estate when they're released at the Geneva Motor Show.
