What's all this about?
Perhaps not the most surprising news here, but Lamborghini has revealed the open-top version of its Huracán. Not that we're disappointed, of course. The Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder is a Frankfurt Motor Show star and it's capable of 201mph.
Blimey, that's pretty quick! Is it uprated from the hard-top Huracán?
No, it has the same V10 engine delivering 610hp and 560Nm, driving all four wheels through a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Weight is slightly up on the coupé, with the Spyder clocking in at 1,542kg, but even so, 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, 0-124mph on 10.2 seconds and that 200mph+ top speed are hardly to be sniffed at.
Is the hood new?
Yes, a fresh electrohydraulic design that can be finished in red, brown or black, while it can be lowered or raised on the move at speeds of up to 31mph. You might be pleased to know that having the open-top facility hasn't spoiled the Huracán as a driving car (according to its maker in any case); torsional rigidity and downforce are increased by 40 and 50 per cent respectively over the preceding Gallardo Spyder.
Can you outline the standard kit?
LED lights all round, 20-inch Giano wheels, the new Lamborghini Infotainment System II with a 12.3-inch TFT display, carbon-ceramic brakes and the Anima drive select systems. Options include a Sensonum high-end sound system, Lamborghini Dynamic Steering and magnetorheological dampers.
Anything else that's new for the Spyder, specifically?
It comes with stop-start and cylinder-on-demand technology, features that will filter to the rest of the Huracán line-up in 2016.
O-ho, so does that improve fuel economy and emissions?
Er, not really. Come on, this is a 610hp car, at the end of the day. Budget on 23mpg combined and 285g/km CO2.
