What's all this about?
Hyundai has revealed that the all-new Tucson range will start at £18,695 when it goes on sale in September. Five trim levels are available - S, SE, SE Nav, Premium and Premium SE - with the top model costing £32,345.
What do you get for the money?
Standard equipment on the S includes 16-inch alloy wheels; on the inside there is a DAB radio with Bluetooth, USB and aux-in connectors. The specification also includes air conditioning and dusk-sensing headlamps.
The £20,495 Tucson SE can be identified by its 17-inch alloys, projector headlamps, static cornering lights and rear parking sensors. There are heated front seats for when it is cold and dual-zone climate control for when it isn't. Safety equipment includes a Lane Keep Assistance System (LKAS). An extra £800 is enough to buy the SE Nav, which includes more than just an inbuilt navigation system with an eight-inch touchscreen. It also features a reversing camera and Speed Limit Information System (SLIF), which uses the front camera and navigation system to identify the speed limit and relays this information to the driver.
Prices for the Premium version start at £25,045 for the 1.7 CRDi model, which comes with 17-inch wheels, while all other versions get 19-inch alloys. Leather upholstery is standard and the passengers in the outer rear seats get seat heaters. Safety and convenience features include front parking sensors, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Detection.
At the top of the range the SE Premium comes with LED headlamps, a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof and electric tailgate. There is keyless entry, heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats. Models with automatic transmission get Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS).
What about the engines?
There are two petrol engines, a basic 1.6-litre and a 1.6 turbo, which develop 132- and 177hp respectively; the 1.6 turbo can be ordered with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Diesel power options are a 1.7-litre with 116hp or a 2.0-litre that comes in 136- or 185hp versions. Lowest CO2 emissions are from the 1.7 diesel, which puts out 117g/km.
