What's all this about?
This is the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, destined for the Concours d'Elegance at the Villa d'Este, in Italy, revealed in all its glory. And we're not sure how much more we need to say than that.
Why?
You have eyes - look at it. It is sublime. Sensational. There's a lot of blurb to go with it about every aspect of its curvaceous, 1970s-tribute appearance, but nothing we can write can match just gazing at it. And drooling. Oh, one thing to note: it is indeed finished in Golf Yellow, one of the original car's hues, as we predicted in our original article.
Can you tell me anything more at this stage?
Well, not much more than we knew already - it's heavy on the carbon fibre (if you'll forgive the oxymoron) and has an interior that's beautiful but unlikely ever to make production.
Oh, is BMW going to build it then?
We don't know, but we have everything crossed. Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president for BMW Group Design, said this: "Our Hommage cars not only demonstrate how proud we are of our heritage, but also how important the past can be in determining our future." It's not much to go on, but it could mean this might become a new 6 Series, possible 8 Series or some sort of BMW i product. Whatever happens next, we can say this for certain: we're delighted that it exists. And we're insanely jealous of the folk going to Italy to see it up close and personal.
