What's all this about?
Total Land Rover production passed six million vehicles in April, the month that also sees the brand celebrate its 67th anniversary. Car number 6,000,000 was a Yulong White Range Rover LWB Vogue SE and it gets a very discreet unique design touch to indicate its place in history.
Sounds interesting, tell me more.
The six millionth car was finished on 2nd April and to mark the milestone a special graphic was projected onto the wall of Land Rover's factory in Solihull proclaiming the number, brand logo and 'April 2015'. A miniature version of the same logo has been built into the puddle lights of the Range Rover, to project the image onto the ground and confirm the car's position in Land Rover history every time the front doors are opened.
A special inscribed lens inside the door mirror, no wider than a grain of rice, is inscribed with the one-off logo. Thanks to a magnifying lens the graphic measures 80cm on the ground.
What happened to the car?
Land Rover has placed the Range Rover centre-stage at the Shanghai Auto Show; the luxury vehicle will feature in a number of events in China to mark the Range Rover's 45th anniversary. Eventually one lucky customer in the region will be able to buy the special car.
Andy Goss, Director, Group Sales Operations, Jaguar Land Rover commented: "It's fitting that the 6,000,000th Land Rover to be produced is a Range Rover, since this year marks the 45th anniversary of the original Range Rover's launch and even today, the vehicle remains peerless. With the growth of sales in China since the latest version of the Range Rover was introduced in 2012, it is entirely appropriate that this landmark vehicle is destined for a Chinese customer."
