What's all this about?
The third and fourth models in the Volvo Cross Country pantheon (probably a bit of a strong word, but we digress) have been priced up for the UK.
Which ones are they?
It's the S60 Cross Country and V60 Cross Country. And yes, the former of those is a saloon, which at least differentiates it from the jacked-up, all-wheel drive, plastic-clad estate mob.
How much are they?
The V60 has more engines and trims than the S60, so the starting price is £30,195 for the D3 Cross Country SE (which, bizarrely, is front-wheel drive), rising to £38,025 for the D4 Cross Country Geartronic Lux Nav (which, unbizarrely, is all-wheel drive). The S60 Cross Country has two drivetrains and one spec level, which is Lux Nav, so the D4 front-wheel drive is £33,695 and the D4 Geartronic all-wheel drive is £36,725. First deliveries should take place in June.
Just remind me of the specs again?
The S60 and V60 Cross Country cars ride 65mm higher than their regular siblings and have lots of underbody protection. Gloss black window trim and door mirrors, plus unique designs for both the front grille and the 19-inch wheels, help mark out the Cross Country versions. Cars badged D3 and D4, which are front-drive, have Drive-E 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines. The all-wheel drive Cross Country Volvos get the old five-cylinder diesel engine.
When did Volvo first introduce the Cross Country badging?
Way back in 1997, when the V70 Cross Country first appeared. As did Prime Minister Tony Blair. Shudder...
