Volkswagen has announced prices for the Scirocco and Golf R models in the UK. Available to order now, the Scirocco R starts at £26,945 while the Golf R costs an extra £1,985. Both models are due to arrive in showrooms in February 2010.
Both models get unique 'R' styling features including new bumpers incorporating LED running lights, side skirts and tailgate spoilers. The interiors feature leather sports steering wheels, backlit instruments with electric blue needles and optional 'Vienna' leather upholstery.
The Scirocco R has a 252bhp engine that drives the front wheels. XDS electronic traction control is fitted and acceleration from 0-62mph takes a claimed six seconds (5.8 for DSG-equipped models). Cars with the twin-clutch gearbox also use slightly less petrol - 35.3- against 34.9mpg.
Volkswagen claims that the Golf R is the fastest accelerating car it has made - thanks to a 266bhp engine and four-wheel drive. The key figures are 5.7 seconds 0-62mph or 5.5 with the DSG gearbox. Fuel consumption is a respectable 33.2mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 199g/km, which can be reduced by 4g/km with DSG.
Prices start at £26,945 for the Scirocco R and £28,930 for the Golf R. The six-speed DSG transmission is a £1,300 option on both models and the Golf is also available as a five-door for £29,515. Both cars are available to order now and will be in showrooms from February 2010.
