What's all this about?

Ferrari has confirmed the LaFerrari open-top's existence with these first official images of the super-expensive, highly limited, stupidly fast hypercar. It will get its full reveal, technical details and all, at the Paris Motor Show in October.

And what is the cabrio called?

Its official name, too, will be confirmed in Paris - the smart money's on LaFerrari Spider, but Ferrari might surprise us. Maybe the 'Aperta'?

Money - good point. How much will it cost?

Almost certainly more than the £1.15 million the coupé went for. But even if your Lotto numbers have recently come in, two things stand in your way of owning one.

What are they?

One, it's not yet confirmed how many open-top LaFerraris will be built; Maranello made 499 of the hard-top model and there's no indication of whether there will be fewer, extra or exactly the same amount of this one. And secondly, following a special preview for clients, all the production run of the open-top LaFerraris have sold out. We already know Gordon sodding Ramsay has one coming to him, following his excruciating appearance on the initial episode of Top Gear programme.

Can you tell me nothing about the LaFerrari open-top beyond the above?

Oh, we can say for certain that the same 963hp hybrid drivetrain (made up of an 800hp petrol V12 engine mated to a 163hp (120kW) electric motor) will power the open-top hypercar, while the removable roof is made of carbon fibre. Ferrari says that 'significant and extensive modifications have been made to the chassis with the aim of retaining the same torsional rigidity and beam stiffness as the coupé version'. The aerodynamics have also been honed to offer the same drag coefficient in open-top mode as with the roof in place.

It sounds truly epic.
