What's all this about?
Prices have been announced for the 2016 Mercedes SL range with dealers taking orders from today.
How much is it?
The range starts at £73,805 for the Mercedes-Benz SL 400 with a 367hp, 3.0-litre V6. If you want V8 power, the SL 500 with a 455hp, 4.6-litre motor costs £82,850. Two Mercedes-AMG SL models are available, the V8-engined SL 63 for £114,100 or the V12-powered SL 65 priced at £173,295.
What do you get for the money?
Standard equipment on the SL 400 and SL 500 includes Apple CarPlay, Active Brake Assist and Active Bonnet. On the outside you get the LED Intelligent Light System and 18-inch alloys with different designs dependent on model.
Mercedes-AMG models can be identified by the 'V8 BITURBO' and 'V12 BITURBO' script on the front wings. On the inside, the driver gets an AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather; underneath there are composite brakes, a sports exhaust and sports suspension.
Any interesting options?
If you want Active Body Control including Curve Tilt Function, it will add £3,080 to the price. This allows the car to lean into bends by up to 2.65 degrees.
Keyless entry costs £1,605 for the 'Keyless-go Comfort Package', which includes hands-free opening and closing the boot by kicking under the rear bumper.
All models can be ordered with the Night Package, with prices varying depending on the version. This adds 19-inch alloy wheels for the SL 400 and 500 or 20-inch wheels for the SL 63 and 65, plus, gloss black finished diffuser trim strip, front splitter and mirror housings.
A limited-run SL 400 Edition is available with extra equipment for £74,995. Only 130 examples will be sold with the specification including AIRSCARF, KEYLESS-GO Comfort Package, Driving Assistance Package (Distance Pilot, Active Brake Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist) electric draught stop and velour floor mats.
