OMEGA V8 PROMISES STUNNING PERFORMANCE AND PREMIUM QUALITY

The mighty Omega V8, powered by a 5.7 litre V8 aluminium 315PS engine, will make its world premiere at the 70th Geneva International Motor Show (March 2 - 12, 2000).

The limited edition Omega will reach 60mph in under seven seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. It will be available in saloon or estate versions.

The latest development of the famous General Motors ‘small block’ - used so successfully in the Chevrolet Corvette - forms the basis of the Omega V8’s powerful engine which is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

The 5.7 litre aluminium engine boasts 315 PS and maximum torque of 450 Nm at 5600 rpm. Exceptional torque is also achieved at low engine speeds with 400 Nm available at only 1800 rpm. Average fuel consumption (MVEG test) is 21.7 mpg.

DSA chassis
The Omega V8´s DSA chassis (Dynamic Safety) is based on the acclaimed sport chassis as fitted to the current MV6 Omega, introduced last year. It gives the car exemplary balance with a 51-49 per cent weight distribution front and rear, while specially adapted suspension and damper settings increase the road holding at high speeds.

The braking performance is among the very best, the Omega V8 fitted with a system to match its full performance potential. Internally ventilated discs on all wheels are used - 330mm diameter at the front, 300mm at the back.

An electronic traction control system (TCS), which is permanently active in both the traction and coasting modes, is a further safety factor.

Performance style - inside and out
Striking 17-inch, six-spoke alloy wheels are fitted with Michelin ‘pilot sport’ size 235/45 ZR 17 tyres. Other understated and elegant design cues distinguish the Omega V8, such as the exclusive radiator grille, graphite coloured brake calipers, dark-glass rear lights, a twin exhaust tailpipe in brushed stainless steel and a V8 emblem on the rear.

Inside the Omega is distinguished with its aluminium inlays in the doors and centre console, special instrument graphics, high-grade leather trim and a steering wheel in perforated Napa leather. Supporting an extensive standard equipment list, optional extras include a navigation system with first class audio facility, an integrated audio/cell-phone system and a Bose Sound System carefully matched to the interior of the Omega V8.

The Omega’s standard safety package offers reassuring protection for all occupants. Front and side airbags for the driver and passenger and Active Head Restraints on the front seats are standard, while a seat occupancy recognition system is available as an option in conjunction with the passenger-side airbag.

The rear seats of the estate version uses a system introduced on the new Omega last year called ALIAS (Advanced Load Intrusion Avoidance System) which protects occupants from loads and luggage sliding forwards in the event of a frontal collision.

The Omega V8 is due to go on sale in most of Europe in the autumn but is not currently scheduled to come to the UK.
